Story
A new America 250 exhibit is now on display at the White House Inn Museum, giving Sumner County residents another local opportunity to connect with Tennessee history during the nation's 250th anniversary year.
"Our American Story: Voices from Tennessee" is a traveling exhibition developed by the Tennessee State Museum. The exhibit explores the lives of Tennesseans from different eras and communities, showing how their individual stories connect with the history of Tennessee and the United States.
Featured figures include Cherokee leader Ostenaco, Battle of Kings Mountain messenger Joseph Greer, Tennessee's first governor John Sevier, suffragist Abby Crawford Milton, Tennessee Supreme Court Chief Justice Adolpho A. Birch, and Tennessee astronaut Barry Wilmore.
The traveling exhibit grew out of the Tennessee State Museum's "Tennessee Voices, American Stories" exhibition and was developed for museums and community organizations across the state as part of the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. Its central display includes five double-sided exhibit panels, with additional regional material available to help connect the statewide story to communities across Tennessee.
The Tennessee State Museum currently lists the exhibit at the White House Inn Museum through August 31, 2026. The museum is located at 412 Highway 76 in White House and is generally open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission to the White House Inn Museum is free.
For residents of northern Sumner County, the exhibit offers a chance to participate in the statewide Tennessee America 250 commemoration close to home while learning about the people whose lives contributed to Tennessee's place in the American story.
